On Sunday we honored a very lovely lady—my mother-in-law—on her 94th Birthday. We did it in the way we’ve celebrated so many holidays and special occasions over the years: we gathered as family, shared a meal and easy conversation, hugged each other and told stories, inquired of children and grandchildren who weren’t able to be present, and thoroughly enjoyed the company of those who were. Five generations were represented that day–from Mother, who is the last of her generation, to Sawyer and Kya , who are the first of theirs, and all of us in between. Mother seemed to glow in the warmth of being surrounded by so many who care so deeply for her. Several phone calls from far-away grandchildren and great-grandchildren rounded out the well-wishes.
I am indescribably blessed to call this family mine. I can’t express the myriad ways in which its various members have shaped and impacted my life over the 40 years I have been privileged to be a part of it. I’m grateful to you all, starting with Mom Betty–Happy Birthday to you!!
