Some of my summer travels included a trip with my sister to South Carolina to see our brother and sister-in-law and to Florida to attend our niece’s wedding. Great trip all around. Such fun being with my siblings and the wedding was, of course, beautiful! Here is a shot of my handsome brother and my lovely niece, Amie.
For their wedding weekend, Amie and Scott chose The Club Continental, a gorgeous destination along the St. John’s River in Orange Park, FL. Our stay there was perfect: elegant accommodations, lush gardens, and great weather for a couple of Pacific Northwesterners — unseasonably cool, though still humid. At one point, I quipped to my nephew Blake that I’d experienced something new that morning: I walked outside and my glasses fogged up. He said, “We would think it was weird if we walked outside and our glasses DIDN’T fog up! So special visiting with Blake (pictured below) and getting acquainted with his wife Jill and baby son, Davis.
Our family weddings traditionally involve contributions from lots of members. For this one, my brother crafted this one-of-a-kind wedding cake stand, my sister-in-law had charge of creating all the bridal flowers and reception centerpieces, my sister made Oregon raspberry jam for table favors, and I added gift soaps for the Bridesmaids Breakfast attendees.
My niece also worked very hard to add many special touches to her wedding, including baking and decorating this awesome groom’s cake for her husband-to-be. The cake featured an LSU (Scott’s alma mater) tiger head and the state of Louisiana (his home state). An unexpected hiccup added charm to the ceremony. When the minister called for the rings, Scott felt his jacket pocket and got a panicked look on his face. He had forgotten the rings in his room! We all chuckled and someone sprinted to Scott’s room as he called out, “They’re in my suitcase!” The minister carried on with the next part of his talk and the runner was back with the rings in no time. Cute memory for this sweet couple. I thought the wedding photographers (Alex and Cammy Photography) captured the moment perfectly.
I’ll share more about our SC visit later. Think: Boiled Peanuts, The Hog and Dog Whisperer, and a Pro Rodeo!
